Sanergy nominated for Prince William’s Earthshot Prize

Sanergy has been nominated as one of 15 finalists of the inaugural Earthshot Prize, a new annual prize launched by Prince William to search for inspiring and innovative solutions to problems facing the planet.

The nominating committee was captivated by Sanergy’s solution to sanitation and waste. Sanergy provides locally built, cost-effective dry toilets in some of Kenya’s most densely packed urban areas. Sanitation waste and all other forms of organic waste from kitchens, agricultural pack houses and markets is then safely removed and transported to Sanergy’s factory where it is consumed by black soldier fly larvae and converted to safe agricultural inputs sold to local farmers.

Sanergy currently serves 140,000 residents daily and removes 20,000 tonnes of waste per year.

Sanergy was one of three finalists in the ‘Build a Waste-Free World’ category. The eventual winner, announced at a ceremony in London on 17 October was won by food waste programme, The City of Milan Food Waste Hubs.
